You probably know Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, the lovable jock in Netflix’s sci-fi smash “Stranger Things.” However, he was a musician long before ever gracing our television screens. After two albums with the Chicago psychedelic rock outfit Post Animal, Keery began releasing music solo under the moniker Djo. With a new album on the way in 2025, the actor-musician recently tackled Haim’s “Gasoline.”

Watch Joe Keery (Djo) Pay Homage to Haim
Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim are sisters in both harmony and blood. The sibling trio makes up the pop-rock band Haim, blending elements of ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s music on songs like “The Wire” and “Little Of Your Love.”
Like the Haim sisters, Joe Keery also comes from a musical family. In fact, you can hear his sisters on Djo’s latest track, “Basic Being Basic.” Stopping by the Australian talk show Triple J on Thursday (Feb. 20,) the 32-year-old Stranger Things star performed a cover of Haim’s hit “Gasoline” for the “Like a Version” segment.
“gonna need about 100 more djo like a versions on my desk by 5pm because this was f—ing incredible,” a YouTube user commented on a video of the performance.
Originally appearing on Haim’s 2020 album Women in Music Pt. 111, “Gasoline” gathered steam on the charts when the sisters dropped a remix featuring Taylor Swift. Paste’s Ellen Johnson described the song as “a truly sensual slow jam that was made for making out all night in the car.” And honestly, we couldn’t have said it better.
“Love that album, I think they’re such great artists,” Keery said of Haim after his performance. ““I love that they’re sisters and they’re making music together. I’ve got a big family, and the other song that we played, ‘Basic’, my sisters are singing on that. So I thought it’d be sort of cool to pay homage to them for that reason.”

He continued, “Shout out to them. I hope they’re making new music soon because we deserve another album from them. We’re overdue.”
As for the reception to Djo’s cover, fans loved it so much, that they’ve begun petitioning in the comment section of the video for him to get his own Tiny Desk concert. The top comment on the video, with over 400 likes, says “petition for djo to be on NPR’s tiny desk concert– this is peak.”
New Music On The Way From Djo
As Haim puts the finishing touches on their fourth album, Joe Keery also has new music on the way.
Djo’s third album, The Crux, hits shelves April 4—the same day the band kicks on a North American tour in Portland, Oregon. Meanwhile, Stranger Things’ fifth and final season is also due to premiere sometime this year.
