Donald Glover Puts North American Tour on Hold to “Focus on My Physical Health”

Donald Glover kicked off his highly-anticipated New World Tour—ostensibly his final as Childish Gambino—just last month. The tour is supporting his 2024 albums Atavista (a reworked version of his 2020 album 3.15.20) and Bando Stone & The New World. Unfortunately for Childish Gambino fans in North America, however, Glover recently announced that Childish Gambino’s farewell tour is on hold.

Donald Glover Tells Fans To “Hold Onto Your Tickets”

Ahead of his Sept. 10 show in Austin, Texas, Donald Glover took to social media to break some unfortunate news.

“hey everyone. unfortunately i have to postpone the rest of the north american tour to focus on my physical health for a few weeks,” Glover wrote on X/Twitter Monday (Sept. 9.)

The “This is America” rapper offered no further details on his condition. Thanking fans for their privacy, support and love, Glover promised to reschedule all canceled dates. “hold onto your tickets,” he wrote. “ALL tickets will be honored for the upcoming dates in north america when they are rescheduled.”

The North American tour had a month remaining at the time of Glover’s post. The next show was set for Tuesday (Sept. 10) at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas before moving through the West Coast and Midwest and wrapping up Oct. 3 in Chicago.

Donald Glover heads to Lyon, France, on Oct. 31 to begin the overseas leg. After about a month in Europe, the tour will move to New Zealand and Australia in January 2025. Childish Gambino’s final farewell is set for Feb. 11 in Perth, Australia.

Few fans expressed disappointment in the X/Twitter thread, with most opting for well wishes. “Feel better soon, we can wait!” one user wrote.

Why It’s Time To Move On From Childish Gambino

Under the moniker Childish Gambino, Donald Glover has released four EPs and five studio albums. He has scored five GRAMMY Awards, including the 2019 Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “This is America.”

However, Glover told The New York Times in July that he is ready to move on. After releasing his fifth album this year, “It really was just like, ‘Oh, it’s done,’” he said.

“It’s not fulfilling,” the Emmy winner added. “And I just felt like I didn’t need to build in this way anymore.”
