Drake Says He’s Taking a Break from Music

Hours before Drake ultimately released his newest album For All The Dogs, he hosted a special episode of his Sound 42 radio show on Sirius XM. Dubbed Table for One, the episode saw him discuss several aspects of the LP at length, as well as his life plans once For All The Dogs arrived. And to the possible dismay of millions of fans, those plans surprisingly do not include music.

“I probably won’t make music for a little bit, I’m gonna be honest,” he said on-air. “I got some other things that I need to do for some other people that I made promises to but I probably won’t make music for a little bit. I’m gonna be real with you. I need to focus on my health, first and foremost. I’ll talk about that soon enough. Nothing crazy, but I want people to be healthy in life and I’ve been having the craziest problems for years with my stomach.”

Since 2021, Drake has now put out four full-length albums. In September 2021 he released his solo album Certified Lover Boy, which sold 613,000 in its first week. Then in 2022, he dropped two different albums. The first of these came in the form of Honestly, Nevermind in June, which saw him test out a dance/house music approach. More than four months later, he released Her Loss, a collaborative LP with 21 Savage where he returned to his hip-hop and R&B roots.

Now with For All The Dogs, it seems like the rap icon may be feeling a bit burnt out, and understandably so. Following up on the quote he gave above, he continued by estimating how long his impending absence from music would last.

“I have a lot of other things that I would love to focus on so I’mma lock the door to the studio for a little bit,” he said. “I don’t even know what a little bit is. Maybe a year or something. Maybe a little longer.”

While fans may mourn over the thought of a Drake hiatus, it would be hard for them to complain too much, considering he just delivered 23 new songs. Including collaborations with SZA, Bad Bunny, J. Cole, 21 Savage, and more, For All The Dogs contains enough music to hold fans over for quite a long time, which may have been Drake’s plan all along.
