Ex-Eagles Guitarist Don Felder Releasing New Solo Album, ‘The Vault’; Check Out Lead Single “Free at Last”

Former Eagles guitarist Don Felder will release his fourth solo studio album, The Vault (Fifty Years of Music), on May 23. The 10-track collection features nine new versions of songs Felder wrote and previously recorded as demos over the course of five decades, but never released before.

The album also includes an updated version of Felder’s only charting solo single, “Heavy Metal.” That song originally appeared on the soundtrack for the 1981 animated sci-fi film of the same name. It peaked at No. 43 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Felder has released a song called “Free at Last” as an advance digital single from The Vault. The melodic, ’80s-influenced rock tune features a pulsating beat and, not surprisingly, some tastefully soaring guitar riffing from Felder.

The album also includes songs as old as “Move On,” from 1974, and as recent as “I Like the Things You Do,” which was written in 2023.

The Vault also features contributions from a variety of guest musicians. They include Toto members David Paich, Steve Lukather, Joseph Williams, and Greg Phillinganes, as well as acclaimed bassist Nathan East and percussionist Lenny Castro. Also appearing on The Vault are the renowned rock drummers Greg Bissonette, Brian Tichy, and Todd Sucherman.

More About Felder’s New Solo Album

The Vault is being released as part of a new record deal with the Frontiers Music label.

“So thrilled to be joining the Frontiers family and to finally share this new record with the world!” the 77-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer said in a statement. “This music means everything to me, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

The album can be pre-ordered now, and is available on CD, as a vinyl LP, and via digital formats. A limited-edition vinyl test pressing of The Vault also can be purchased.

The Vault is a follow-up to Felder’s 2019 album, American Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Felder’s 2025 Tour Plans

Felder has a series of solo headlining performances lined up in March, April and May of 2025. His next concert is scheduled for Thursday, March 6, in Worley, Idaho.

Don also will be Foreigner’s support act on March 13 in Hollywood, Florida, and March 16 in St. Augustine, Florida.

Then, starting on May 28 in Greenville, South Carolina, Felder will team up with Styx and REO Speedwagon frontman Kevin Cronin for The Brotherhood of Rock Tour. The lengthy North American trek runs through an August 24 performance in Milwaukee.
