While people know of bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alice in Chains, Spinal Tap, and Jane’s Addiction, many might not know that behind those bands was Dave Jerden. A famed record producer and audio engineer, Jerden helped bands bring their ideas to life. And although he didn’t care much for the title of producer, he shared a love for music that entertained millions around the world. Sadly, on February 5th, Jerden passed away at 75 years old.
Sharing the news on Facebook, Jerden’s family posted a collage of pictures of the producer. Seeming to take fans on a journey through his life, the family wrote, “Today I share the news of the passing of our Father Dave Jerden. He passed away yesterday the 5th of February, peacefully in his sleep. I have so much to say but the words are hard to come. He was The Best Father anyone could ask for.” The family added, “He was our world, and My Daddy Duck. He was such an inspiration to all of us.”

Continuing to honor the legacy of her father, Michelle Jerden Forrest noted, “As I always said, He was The Man, The Myth, The Legend. His Memory will live on through his unwavering Love and Care as a Father, and his contribution to The Music Industry. You’ll always be with us Daddy Duck, never a moment without you.”
The Best Advice Dave Jerden Gave
Fans of Jerden filled the comments with love and support for the family as they navigated the coming days. “What a man. After all these years I still have a lasting impression of him. I’m sending you all the love.” Another person added, “There are no words when we lose a parent. I’m so grateful you have wonderful memories to hold on too. Big hugs to you.”
While leaving his mark on the music industry, Jerden once offered some advice to those looking to break into the business. Speaking with Gearspace.com in 2022, he explained, “the best advice I can give anyone that wants to make it in this business is the same advice I was given when I started out. First and foremost: Always do your best. Never depend on anyone else.” Jerden continued, “Never assume anything. … Never assume someone else is going to do your job or everything in the recording process is going along fine.”
