In addition to the more than 100 feature films that will be screened, the festival will also feature musical performances after the premieres of select films. Alicia Keys will curate a lineup of artists from the initiative she founded, She is the Music–a nonprofit that aims to increase the number of women working in the music industry–to perform following the premiere of Uncharted, a documentary chronicling a week of the She is the Music songwriting camp. Bareilles will perform after the debut of Waitress, the Musical – Live on Broadway! The “Brave” singer wrote the music and lyrics for the musical Waitress and has played the lead role on Broadway.

Legendary disco singer Gaynor is at the center of a new documentary, Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive, which will have its world premiere at Tribeca. Known for hits “I Will Survive” and “I Am What I Am,” Gaynor is set to perform after the debut of the film. Punk band Gogol Bordello will perform following the conclusion of their documentary, Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story. The band is no stranger to the big screen, as they’ve also starred in Elijah Wood-fronted 2005 film, Everything is Illuminated and the 2008 documentary, Gogol Bordello Non-Stop.

It’s Only Life After All tells the origin story of the Indigo Girls, chronicling their initial meeting at Emory University to becoming the famous folk duo known for such hits as “Galileo” and “Hammer and Nail,” as well as their political activism. The duo will follow the premiere with a songwriting masterclass.

“Over the course of 12 thrilling days, we invite audiences to explore the magic of storytelling as a powerful tool of democracy, activism, and social awareness,” Tribeca Festival Co-Founder Jane Rosenthal says in a press release. “We’re also proud to highlight the 50th anniversary of hip-hop as a culture-defining genre that originated right here in New York City, with insightful world premieres about beat-boxing legends and live performances from today’s top-charting musicians.”

The Tribeca Film Festival takes place June 7-18 in New York City.
