Halsey Shares Update From Hospital Following “Life-Altering Diagnosis”

First building a following on social media, Halsey broke through with her 2015 studio debut Badlands. The New Jersey-born electro-pop artist (real name: Ashley Frangipane) has since released three additional albums and scored three GRAMMY nods. Currently, she is preparing to release her fifth album, The Great Impersonator, next month. Halsey has indicated she made the album in response to a life-altering medical diagnosis. And the “Ego” singer recently sparked concerns about her health when she shared a social media update from her hospital bed.

Halsey Has Been Candid About Her Health Battles

On Wednesday (Sept. 25), Halsey shared a video of her lying in a hospital bed to her Instagram page. The artist’s fiance, Canadian singer Avan Jogia, can be seen by her bedside.

“Happy Late Bi Visibility Day,” she wrote in the caption, referring to the Monday (Sept. 23) observation. “This year I’m celebrating by dying with a man by my side (for legal reasons that’s a joke).”

Back in June, the Maxxxine star opened up on social media about the health struggles she had alluded to in her song “The End:” Every couple of years now, a doctor says I’m sick / Pulls out a brand-new bag of tricks and then they lay it on me / And at first, it was my brain, then a skeleton in pain / And I don’t like to complain, but I’m saying sorry.

Halsey revealed that she has been diagnosed with both systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and a “rare” T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder beginning in 2022.

“Both of which are currently being managed or in remission; and both of which I will likely have for the duration of my life,” she said.

Fans Rally Around Star Amid Hospitalization News

Having been in the music industry for nearly a decade, Halsey has amassed a sizable fanbase. That fanbase rallied around the “Bad At Love” singer after learning of her recent health setback.

“i hope you’re doing okay, this vid lowkey worries me,” one Instagram user commented.

Other fans—many of whom share her diagnoses—praised the singer for finding levity in a difficult situation. “As a fellow bi with lupus whos also going into surgery in a few hours, I wish us both the best,” one fan commented. “ride that dark humor.”
