Hayes Carll and The Band of Heathens Announce Their Debut Collaborative Album ‘Hayes & The Heathens’

Singer/songwriter Hayes Carll and rock group The Band of Heathens have been sharing stages across the United States since they first played together in Luckenbach, Texas last year. Now, the supergroup is planning to make things official with their debut album. Today (September 19), they announced that Hayes & The Heathens will hit streaming platforms and record stores on October 4. Those who want to sample their collaborative sound are in luck. They have already released two singles from the collection.

They fittingly released the first single “Nobody Dies from Weed” on April 19. Written by Carll and Driver Williams, the song leans strongly into the sound that the singer/songwriter has cultivated over the years. They released the second sample from the collection, “Any Other Way” on September 6. Penned by Carll and Aaron Raitiere, “Any Other Way” is a good-time track that leans more toward the Band of Heathens’ funky rock sound.

Hayes & The Heathens will feature seven tracks penned by Carll, and Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist of Band of Heathens. Additionally, the supergroup included a cover of the Proclaimers’ 1988 hit “I’m Gonna Be (5000 Miles)” on their debut effort.

Ed Jurdi and Gordi Quist of Band of Heathens on Their Collaboration with Hayes Carll

Ed Jurdi and Gordi Quist of Band of Heathens spoke about their collaboration with Hayes Carll in a statement. “Our collaboration was so natural and easy. We’ve been great compadres for such a long time, and it was just the right time for this project to come to life,” Jurdi shared. “I think you can really hear all of that in the music. This is really that rare alliance where 1+1=3,” he added.

“Leaning into each other’s strengths, we found some sonic territory new to all of us, something between country-funk and good-time boogie,” Quist shared. “The deciding factor for all of our creative choices on the record came down to the simple question of what sounds more fun,” he added.
