First airing in 1975, Saturday Night Live went on to become a launching pad for several comedians. And over the decades, the show offered more than a few laughs for fans looking for a relaxing Saturday night. With 2025 marking 50 years since the show first aired, Lorne Michaels pulled out all the stops when it came to the SNL50: The Anniversary Special on Sunday, February 16th. Although offering a massive lineup of stars, a new weekend is here and many fans are wondering if a new episode will air tonight.

Paying tribute to the stars who helped create the iconic show and some of SNL’s most memorable moments, the special show featured appearances from celebrities like Tracy Morgan, Eddie Murphy, Kristen Wiig, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Chris Rock, Andy Samberg, Seth Meyers, Tom Hanks, Jason Sudeikis, and many more. Even Dave Chappelle made an appearance. While a historic moment for SNL, it appeared that the cast needed some time off after the show as there is no new episode tonight.
Although not the news fans wanted to hear, they will have to wait more than a week before SNL returns to Studio 8H for a new show. Not expected to air a live show until March 1st, SNL shared the host and musical guest, which included Tate McRae and Shane Gillis. Many remember Gillis making his debut on SNL just a few months ago. The history surrounding Gillis and the series was somewhat turbulent when Michaels ended up letting the comedian go before he even got a chance to appear on the show.

Lady Gaga Performs “D**K In A Box” During ‘Saturday Night Live’ Anniversary Special
Not holding a grudge against SNL, Gillis evidently proved himself as Michaels asked him to return for a second time. Just a week after the comedian takes the stage, Lady Gaga will grace the SNL stage as not only the musical guest but the host. Having appeared on the show in the past, Gaga knows how to juggle hosting duties and performing.
During the 50th anniversary special, Gaga performed at the SNL50: Homecoming Concert, which featured her sharing the stage with Samberg to perform the classic SNL hit “D**k in a Box.”
