Having explored the music industry since the early 2000s, Lana Del Rey found success as she showcased her love for genres like rock and pop. To date, the singer released nine studio albums with her last, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, hitting shelves just last year. But wanting to expand her career, the hitmaker decided to follow stars like Beyonce and Post Malone by stepping foot into country music. With country music the hot place to be right now, Del Rey’s upcoming debut album, Lasso, might take longer than she anticipated.

Attending the 2024 Instyle Imagemaker Awards, Del Rey spent some time speaking with People about her upcoming album. Offering some insight into the project, the singer said, “I think all the songs have been Americana and I want to wait to see what the musical atmosphere feels like. Cause I don’t usually feel like I need a pause in the creation process, but if there’s a literal energetic pause that almost feels like physical, then I have to wait and I don’t know why.”

Lana Del Rey Has No Room For Vindication
Trusting herself, Del Rey didn’t want to force the project. Knowing the rich history surrounding country music, the singer wanted it to truly embrace her vision. Listening to herself, Del Rey insisted, “I’ll have to see if it’s because of something someone’s done or because it’s going to take a turn.”
Unsure where the project would take her, Del Rey expressed her love for what she already produced. “The songs I have, I love, so I don’t want to turn it into something that’s half cooked, even if it’s super stripped back. I want it to be what it was supposed to be.”
With Del Rey enjoying the process of making Lasso, she revealed it felt playful at times. “Maybe three years ago there would have been a sense of vindication, but now it just feels playful. I don’t know why. If you hang in long enough, it just feels easy. There’s no vindication, no nothing – I’m just kind of happy to be here. It’s easy-going in that way.”
