Louisiana’s Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff Abruptly Canceled; Festival Featured Eric Church, Ashley McBryde, and More

With August here, the month means more than the beginning of another school year. Although it might seem that football just ended – millions of fans around the country are preparing for the first kickoff of the college football season. Looking to cheer on their favorite teams week after week, fans prepared to celebrate the beginning of football season at the 2024 Louisiana Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff. Featuring singers like Eric Church, it appears the festival was suddenly canceled without any reason given.

Scheduled to take place over the Labor Day weekend on August 31, the festival hoped to take over the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Back in April, fans clamored to get a ticket to the event. And with the tickets selling fast, the festival was already shaping up to be a great way to end the summer. Especially when singers like Church, Jon Pardi, Ashley McBryde, and Thomas Rhett looked to take the stage.

Eric Church Prepares To Celebrate Former President’s Birthday

This marked the second year the Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff was looking to celebrate college football. Last year, the festival welcomed stars like Garth Brooks and Lainey Wilson. Even with the new lineup revealed, Jeff Hundley, the CEO of the Allstate Sugar Bowl, said, “The first-ever Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff was a tremendous success and featured one of the largest concert crowds in Superdome history. We’re thrilled this year to welcome four outstanding country music artists to New Orleans for the second annual event.  It should be a great show and, given the stature of these artists, will be a nice shot in the arm for the tourism economy.”

As mentioned, the event was canceled with less than a month to go before the festival was expected to take place. And while fans will get a refund as Ticketmaster released a statement, there was no reason given as to why the festival was canceled in the first place.

Besides performing at the festival, Church will head to Atlanta in September to celebrate the 100th birthday of former president Jimmy Carter. With Carter turning 100 on October 1st, singers like Church, The War and Treaty, and Maren Morris will take the stage to celebrate his life and legacy.
