Back in 2023, Metallica released its latest album with 72 Seasons. Thrilled about the new album, the band decided to kick off the M72 World Tour. Having performed on some of the biggest stages in the world over the last four decades, the band recently traveled to Syracuse for the first time in 30 years. Taking the stage, James Hetfield, Las Ulrich, Robert Trujillo, and Kirk Hammett had no idea what was waiting for them as nearly 48,000 packed the arena to watch the band perform. And while putting on a stellar concert, Metallica took a moment to thank those in attendance for their continued support.

Before the lights dimmed at the JMA Wireless Dome, Metallica rolled into the city with 79 trucks. Carrying the massive setup surrounding a concert from the heavy metal band, crews worked around the clock to transform the dome into a stage for the iconic group. And when Hatfield finally took the stage, he thanked the crowd for setting a new attendance record. “You make us feel so good and so proud. We are grateful for what we get to do.”
With over 47,500 people in attendance, the last record for the venue was set back in 1982 when The Who performed in front of 47,319 people. As for the concert, Metallica didn’t hold back as they performed legendary songs like “Nothing Else Matters”, “Master of Puppets”, and “Enter Sandman.”

Metallica Thanks Fans For Helping Band Break Attendance Record
Outside of thanking the fans who traveled to see the concert, Metallica also posted a picture on Facebook, showing the massive crowd surrounding the circular stage. With screens lining the venue, it appeared that every person had a great view of the band. “Thank you, Syracuse!!! We had an amazing time kicking off this year’s #M72 Tour at JMA Wireless Dome, where you set a new all-time attendance record with over 47,500 of you welcoming us for our first show!”

For fans who attended the concert, they also discussed the historic night with comments reading, “Absolutely amazing show, had an incredible time!! I was in the east pit like 10 feet from the stage. Thank you for coming back to Syracuse!!” Another person insisted, “Third time seeing you guys. Last time was Damien Lake, back in the 90s. The stage set was astonishing man. You guys are awesome, exceeded all expectations!”
While celebrating the historic concert, Metallica prepared to go international with upcoming concerts in New Zealand, Australia, and England.
