Mick Jagger and his Rolling Stones bandmates Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, as well as Metallica, have all shared tributes to late British singer and actress Marianne Faithfull, who died January 30 at age 78.

Faithfull became a U.K. pop star after she scored a Top-10 hit in 1964 with “As Tears Go By,” one of the earliest songs Jagger and Richards wrote together (Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham, who discovered Marianne, also received a co-writing credit). The Rolling Stones later had a hit with their own rendition of the tune.
In 1966, Faithfull left then-husband John Dunbar to begin a relationship with Jagger. The couple stayed together until 1970, and Faithfull served as inspiration for many Rolling Stones songs, including “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “Wild Horses.”
Marianne also co-wrote “Sister Morphine” with Jagger and Richards. She recorded and released the original version of the song in 1969. The Stones later recorded their own version of the tune, which they included on their 1970 album Sticky Fingers.
During the late 1960s and into the 1970, Faithfull struggled with serious drug addiction issues. She also experienced numerous health issues. That being said, Marianne enjoyed a prolific solo recording career, and also collaborated with many artists. In addition, she received acclaim for her work as a film and stage actor.
Mick Jagger’s Tribute
Jagger posted a heartfelt tribute to Faithfull on his social media pages.
“I am so saddened to hear of the death of Marianne Faithfull,” he wrote. “She was so much part of my life for so long. She was a wonderful friend, a beautiful singer and a great actress. She will always be remembered.”
The 81-year-old rock legend accompanied his post with a series of photos of Faithfull. Among them were two pics of him and Marianne together.
Keith Richards’ and Ronnie Wood’s Homages
Richards and Wood also posted homages to Faithfull on their socials.
Richards’ message reads, “My heartfelt condolences to Marianne’s family! I am so sad and will miss her!! … Love, Keith.”
The guitar great’s post included a recent photo of him with Faithfull toasting each other … him with a wine glass and her with a teacup.
Wood, meanwhile, posted a brief note that reads, “Marianne will be dearly missed … Bless her xx.”
The post is accompanied by a photo of Wood and Faithfull seemingly goofing around while they both hold the same microphone.
Metallica’s Tribute to Marianne
Faithfull famously contributed world-weary backing vocals to Metallica’s hit 1997 song “The Memory Remains.” The song, which appeared on the band’s chart-topping Reload album, peaked at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In Faithfull’s honor, the band posted the following message on its socials: “Thank you, Marianne… For the good times … For your kindness … For the great stories … For your fearlessness … And the biggest Thank You and F— Yeah for your incredible and unique contribution to our music, and for always being so willing to join us in performing it … and partake in the ensuing shenanigans! Rest in Peace.”
Metallica also posted a series of photos featuring Faithfull with the band’s various members over the years.
The Rolling Stones Honored Faithfull on Social Media
In honor of Faithfull, The Rolling Stones’ social media pages also posted a clip of Jagger and Richards performing “As Tears Goes By” from a 1966 appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.
