Rush frontman Geddy Lee will always be best known for his musical and songwriting contributions to his famous band, but in the few years, the rocker has been even more prolific as an author. In 2018, he released Geddy Lee’s Big Beautiful Book of Bass, a coffee-table book that profiled his expansive collection of bass guitars. Then, in November 2023, Lee published his acclaimed memoir, My Effin’ Life.

Now, Geddy has unveiled details about a new coffee-table book, 72 Stories, which looks at some of his favorite items from his extensive collection of baseball memorabilia.
The 160-page volume will initially be available exclusively from RushBackstage.com as a limited-edition hardcover book enclosed in a clothbound slipcase. Each copy is autographed and comes with a Geddy Lee baseball that was custom-made for the limited-edition version. The limited-edition 72 Stories is priced at $249.98, and is expected to ship on December 1.
A standard-edition version of 72 Stories will be published May 13, 2025, according to HarperCollins.com. It’s priced at $50 for the hardcover version and $14.99 for the ebook edition.
More About 72 Stories and Lee’s Love of Baseball
As its title suggests, 72 Stories features the 71-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer sharing details about 72 pieces of baseball memorabilia he’s collected throughout the years.
Lee is a passionate baseball fan and supporter of his hometown Toronto Blue Jays. He’s known for attending many Major League Baseball games in Toronto and across the U.S. He also sang the Canadian national anthem before the 1993 All-Star Game in Baltimore.
“Baseball was in my bones long before music started to seriously divert my attention,” Geddy said in a statement about the book. “Through the Eighties … I was absolutely mad for the game, devoting much of my spare time to learning the nuances of the gameplay and who the current players were, devouring reference books, biographies and novels about the sport.”
He added, “Those game-used baseballs [I collected] brought me closer to the athletes, transporting me right onto the field during their moments of triumph and failure. I fell in love with the idea that baseballs could tell a story.”
Lee Commented About 72 Stories During a 2023 Interview
Lee revealed that he was planning to release a book about his baseball memorabilia collection during a November 2023 interview with Illinois Entertainer. At the time, he was promoting My Effin’ Life, and also was preparing to auction some autographed baseballs he’d collected.
The auction, which was hosted by Christie’s, took place in December 2023. It included baseballs signed by Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, Roberto Clemente, Roger Maris, Stachel Paige, and many other famous ballplayers.
“I’m going to include a copy of the book to the winning bidders of those particular items in my sale that are also featured in this book,” Lee noted. “I’ll give them a signed copy. [The book] came together in a relatively painless way. I wrote it with my co-writer, Daniel Richler. Richard Sibbald, who shot the Big Beautiful Book of Bass, took the photographs. They’re absolutely stunning.”
Geddy also explained to Illinois Entertainer that Sibbald had been “bugging me forever to shoot some of the baseballs.” He added, “So, there is a book, and I’m really pleased with it.”
