“Magic Hour” is available now via digital formats. The tune is the lead single from an upcoming album titled After Hours that will be released in January 2026. According to a post on Marx’s social media pages, he recorded the album in three days at a Los Angeles studio. Richard also noted that After Hours consists of “half standards from the Great American Songbook and half songs I wrote or co-wrote in that style.” He added, “I sang every song live along with a phenomenal rhythm quartet and a [24-]piece big band.”
Marx will preview the album during a five-night residency at the Café Carlyle in New York City running from October 21 to October 25.
The intimate residency shows, dubbed “After Hours: Confessions,” will feature Richard performing a mix of jazz classics and original hits. He’ll be accompanied by a 24-piece orchestra at the gigs. Tickets are available now at RosewoodHotels.com.
“Magic Hour” features lyrics co-written by Marx’s wife, Cuban-American model, TV host, and former MTV VJ Daisy Fuentes. According to a press statement, the song “captures the effortless alchemy of seduction, romance, and an unforgettable melody.”
About How “Magic Hour” Was Written
Marx says he began writing “Magic Hour” while hiking, and he and Fuentes completed it while vacationing in Australia.
“Instead of locking myself in a windowless room like I used to, I head outside and do a hike,” the 61-year-old singer/songwriter explained about how he was inspired to write the song. “It’s as if the melodies and lyrics I’m searching for are hiding behind trees and bushes. The melody came to me very quickly, as usual, but I wasn’t sure what the lyric should be other than something ‘sexy.’”
He continued, “A few short weeks later, I was on tour in Australia and had a break of several days. We escaped to a remote resort called Lizard Island and, the second day on the beach, I sang the melody to my wife, Daisy, and we started throwing out lines to each other. Within thirty minutes, the idea for ‘Magic Hour’ was born. Over martinis in the restaurant, we finished the lyrics.”
