Rock Legend Pulled From Tour by Doctors, Faces Months-Long Recovery

Bret Michaels has played his final show of 2026. The former Poison frontman will not tour for the rest of the year amid health challenges, his team announced on Facebook.

On Aug. 20, Michaels returned to the stage for the first time since he underwent surgery for kidney stones the month prior. Following his show in Georgia, though, Michaels’ team announced that he’s not quite ready to be back at work.

“Following Bret Michaelsโ€™ comeback show at The Bowl at Sugar Hill, doctors and paramedics determined immediately after the show that he still needs additional rest and recovery from his recent surgeries,” the post read. “Bret will be taking the next several months off to heal and get back to 100%.”

Michaels’ doctors, Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel, shared a statement of their own to explain their decision.

โ€œWe will be pulling Bret off the road for the time being,” they said. “He wanted to attempt this show, but we feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels.โ€

Bret Michaels’ Health Issues

The post concluded with Michaels Entertainment Group offering their “deepest apologies” to fans who’d planned to see the performer in the months ahead.

“We were truly looking forward to the rest of this yearโ€™s shows, including The Mountain Music Festival, private events and all the great shows coming up,” the statement read. “We now look ahead and to Bret being able to return healthy, strong and ready to rock.”

Michaels first publicly opened up about his health problems in July. At the time, he revealed on Facebook that he’d played three shows while suffering from kidney stone pain.

โ€œImmediately, the next day following that show, I was admitted to the hospital, as the pain became too much when the stone would not pass,โ€ he wrote at the time. โ€œThe operation has been done and is complete & Iโ€™m out of post-op recovery. Iโ€™m doing everything within my power to feel better and continue playing great shows for great fans when Iโ€™ve got a complete clean bill of health.โ€
