Rory Feek Responds to Being “Canceled” and Gives an Update on Ongoing Family Feud in Lengthy Blogpost

Over the last few weeks, Rory Feek’s family issues have been headline news. In late August his oldest daughters—Heidi and Hopie Feek—went public with their intentions to take legal action against their father in regards to the safety of their sister Indiana. Then, he responded publicly in a lengthy blog post. Next, the Feek sisters took to social media to share their response to that post. Earlier this week, the singer/songwriter wrote another lengthy post about the ongoing dispute.

In the post, titled “Canceled,” Feek first addresses being canceled on the internet. Quoting himself from an essay for Plain Values magazine, he wrote, “Because I have a considerable online presence and am human, I completely expect to be canceled sooner or later. I don’t think it’s possible to be someone who has a positive story and following and not fall from digital grace at one time or another.” Then, he added, “And so it has. In the last few weeks, online I have been accused, tried, and found guilty by a jury of public opinion and canceled.”

Feek went on to decry the various publications that have reported on his public family feud. “They just report whatever they choose to say, or someone else said, as truth, and the public runs with it,” he wrote. “Pretty soon, Facebook, Instagram, and other social platforms are overrun with rumors, stories, gossip, and hateful comments directed at me personally by the thousands.”

Rory Feek Tried to Contact His Daughters Directly

In the post, Rory Feek says that he took the drive from his Middle Tennessee farm to Florence, Georgia to visit his daughters earlier this month. “…[I] knocked on Heidi’s door with two bouquets of peace lily flowers, and hopes that we might be able to sit down and talk, or better yet, I’d just sit and listen to whatever they wanted to say and maybe have the chance to give them a hug and at least try to show them how much I love them,” he wrote. However, despite being home, no one answered the door. As a result, he left the flowers on Heidi’s porch and drove home. During the drive, he received a text stating that his daughters would only speak to him if a therapist, lawyer, or both were present.

“That is where the impasse comes in,” Feek wrote. “They believe that it’s the job of someone with a doctorate, law, or master’s degree to repair what is broken in our family. And I believe that it’s our job. Our responsibility to put our differences aside, sit down together as adults, and do everything in our power to fix what is broken and mend what needs repaired,” he explained. “To do our best to ‘Understand, more than being understood’ and ‘forgive, more than being forgiven,’ as the great St. Francis of Assisi once wrote.”
