If someone like Miley Cyrus says a vocalist is “the best of the best”, she’s probably right. And Cyrus had a chance to sing with her favorite vocalist during Friday’s SNL50: The Homecoming Concert in New York City.

The “best” in question is none other than singer Brittany Howard, best known for fronting the blues rock outfit Alabama Shakes. If you’ve heard her sing before, you likely won’t forget it. Howard is a native of Athens, Alabama, and represents her home state beautifully with her vocal prowess.
Both Howard and Cyrus shared a duet for Saturday Night Live’s highly-anticipated concert last week. The duo covered Queen’s famous 1979 song “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”. The Roots accompanied the two musicians for the performance.
“Singing beside Brittany [Howard] has been a dream of mine,” Cyrus recently gushed in a post to her X account. “She is vocally the best of the best and as the performance grew closer I started questioning my choice to stand next to her and perform. At every rehearsal (which was very few) I was completely blown away. It doesn’t get better than BH. Thank you to [The Roots] for supporting us and rocking it as you always do.”
Fans of both Cyrus and Howard echoed the former’s sentiment.
“So glad she broke free of Alabama Shakes and is doing her own thang!” said one fan in the comments of the post. “Incredible number!”
“She is unbelievable,” said another. “She should’ve blown up way way way way more famous.”
Brittany Howard is More Than Just a Powerhouse Singer
The praise from Miley Cyrus is well-deserved for this incredible vocalist. Howard has contributed some pretty arresting vocal tracks to songs like “Stay High” from her debut solo album Jaime and “What Now” from her 2024 record of the same name. And we can’t forget how she stunned the world with her vocal takes on Alabama Shakes songs like “Hold On” and “Don’t Wanna Fight”.
But outside of singing, Howard is an incredibly talented guitarist as well. There’s a reason why she’s often included on lists of the greatest guitarists of all time.
Following a long hiatus that ended last year, Alabama Shakes will kick off a new tour in 2025.
