About the History of Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival

This year’s Crossroads Guitar Festival is the seventh installment of the event. The 2026 festival will celebrate the 28th anniversary of the Crossroads Centre Antigua rehabilitation facility.

The festival raises money for the Crossroads Centre Antigua, a substance-abuse rehab facility that Clapton co-founded in 1998. The center is located on the Caribbean island of Antigua.

Previous editions of the Crossroads Guitar Festival were held in various locations in 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2019, and 2023. This year’s event marks the first time the festival will take place in Austin. The other sites have included Madison Square Garden in New York City; the Cotton Bowl and American Airlines Center in Dallas; Toyota Park in the Chicago suburb of Bridgeview, Illinois; and the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Clapton also held a benefit event for the Crossroads Centre under a different name in 1999 at Madison Square Garden.

More About the 2026 Crossroads Guitar Festival

Guitar Center is the 2026 festival’s exclusive retail partner. The franchise will present The Guitar Center Experience, an immersive destination at Moody Center where festival attendees can check out instruments and gear, connect with leading guitar brands, and participate in interactive activities.

A collection of historic guitars will be on display as part of The Guitar Center Experience. They include Clapton’s 1956 Fender Stratocaster, “Blackie,” and a 1964 Gibson ES-335 Eric played in Cream; as well as the late Stevie Ray Vaughan’s 1965 Fender Stratocaster, “Lenny.”

Also during the festival, Guitar Center will induct an as-yet-unannounced artist into its famed RockWalk. The Guitar Center Experience will be open daily two hours before the shows begin. Admission will only be available to ticketholders.

About Clapton’s 2026 Tour Plans

The 2026 Crossroads Guitar Festival is scheduled at the end of Clapton’s recently announced upcoming U.S. headlining tour. The trek kicks off September 6 in Detroit and runs through a September 17 show in Kansas City, Missouri.

Eric also has a spring tour of Europe lined up. That’s plotted out from an April 20-21 stand in Guildford, U.K., through a May 17 concert in Munich, Germany.

Clapton also has a one-off show scheduled on August 23 at Royal Sandringham Estate in Sandringham, U.K. Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood’s solo group also will perform at that event.
