About Roth’s Recent Concert
As previously reported, Roth performed a headlining set at the M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, Maryland, on Saturday, May 3. It was the 70-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s first concert since March 10, 2020, when he played an opening set before a KISS show in Lubbock, Texas.
The M3 Rock Festival was held at the Merriweather Post Pavilion. Roth’s 16-song set was made up entirely of original Van Halen songs, with the exception of The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me,” which Van Halen famously covered on its self-titled 1978 debut album. Roth performed with a four-piece band and four backing singers.
According to the Van Halen News Desk fan site, the band consisted of guitarist Al Estrada, bassist Ryan Wheeler, drummer Francis Valentino, and keyboardist Danny Wagner. The website also reported that the backing vocalists were Andre Washington, Juneau Lake, Stevie Notes, and Kurt Lykes.
Online comments generally were extremely positive about Roth’s performance.
At the end of the concert, Roth hinted that he might be planning a tour when he told the crowd, “See you on the road!”
