Lainey Wilson is stripping down “Watermelon Moonshine.” The rising country superstar took to the stage at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, equipped with a guitar for an acoustic rendition of her current single.
She entertained the crowd of thousands with a rugged rendition of the song that captures the nostalgia of love young. Wilson’s charming southern twang comes through in her voice as she sings, Too young to know what love was / But we were learnin’ on a sweet buzz / There’s never nothin’ like the first time / And mine’s always gonna taste like watermelon moonshine. The stripped-back acoustics allowed the reflective nature of the song to shine, the singer opening the set with some insightful words.

“It’s about that young, wild, crazy love, a time in your life when nothing else mattered,” Wilson shared from the stage about the meaning of the song. “I know a lot of y’all got a drink in your hand, so put that thing up, remember when you were 16 years old and you thought you were madly in love, and you might’ve been. And you had that bottle of something in the back seat, you drank the whole thing and you hoped your mom and daddy didn’t smell it on you when you walked back through the house. Let this song take you back.”

Wilson was opening for Luke Combs on one of the stops on his massive 2023 World Tour. It was one of her last dates on the trek that kicked off on March 25 in Arlington, Texas.
“Watermelon Moonshine” is the second single off Wilson’s latest album, Bell Bottom Country. It’s currently in the Top 20 on the Billboard Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs charts. The song appeared in a season five episode of Yellowstone in which Wilson stars as Abby, a country singer who’s friends with ranch hand Ryan.
