2025 Tribeca Film Festival to Feature Appearances by Miley Cyrus, Billy Idol, Eddie Vedder, Metallica Members & More

Earlier in April, it was announced that the world premiere of the new Billy Joel documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, will kick off the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. Now, the festival has unveiled its full schedule. It includes special appearances and performances by a variety of other well-known music artists.

Among the stars who will be featured at the event are Miley Cyrus, Billy Idol, Eddie Vedder, and members of Metallica and Depeche Mode. The fest also will include screenings of documentaries about Counting Crows, Culture Club, and more.

The Tribeca Film Festival will run from June 4 through June 15. Single tickets to screenings will available to Tribeca Festival members starting on April 24, and to the general public beginning April 29. Tribeca Festival memberships and ticket packages are available now at TribecaFilm.com.

Here’s a look at some of the various newly announced music-related screenings and events taking place at the festival:

Something Beautiful, Miley Cyrus

The world premiere of Cyrus’ visual album, Something Beautiful, will take place on June 6 at the Beacon Theatre. The film is described as “a one-of-a-kind pop opera featuring thirteen original new songs from the Something Beautiful album.” The album itself is scheduled to be released on May 30.

Miley will be on hand after the premiere to take part in an exclusive conversation.

Billy Idol Should Be Dead

A documentary titled Billy Idol Should Be Dead will get its world premiere on June 10 at the OKX Theater at Tribeca Performing Arts Center. The film will look at the U.K. punk-rock veteran’s rise to fame, his battle with addiction, and his late-career comeback. The movie was directed by Jonas Åkerlund.

Idol will give an intimate performance after the premiere screening.

Matter of Time, Eddie Vedder

Vedder is featured in Matter of Time, a documentary about the fight to cure a rare and often fatal genetic skin disease called epidermolysis bullosa (EB). The movie will get its world premiere on June 12 at The Indeed Theater at Spring Studios. The film includes footage from a benefit concert the Pearl Jam frontman played in 2023 at Benaroya Hall on Seattle.

Vedder will give an intimate performance after the screening.

Metallica Saved My Life

Metallica Saved My Life is a documentary the delves into the impact the iconic heavy metal band Metallica has had on its fans. The movie, which also was directed by Jonas Åkerlund, will get its world premiere on June 11 at the OKX Theater.

Members of Metallica and Åkerlund will take part in a Q&A after the screening.

Depeche Mode: M

Depeche Mode: M, a new documentary focusing on the famed British synth-pop band’s 2023 concerts in Mexico City, will get its world premiere on June 5 at the OKX Theater. According to a description, the movie blends “concert footage with interstitial elements, exploring music, mortality, and Mexican culture’s relationship with death.”

The members of Depeche Mode will participate in a post-screening conversation.

Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately?

Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately? examines the alternative pop-rock band Counting Crows’ rise to fame during the 1990s. The documentary’s world premiere will be held on June 5 at The Indeed Theater at Spring Studios.

The film includes appearances by Cyndi Lauper, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and actress Mary-Louise Parker.

Boy George & Culture Club

Boy George & Culture Club is a documentary that celebrates the history of the popular 1980s British group Culture and its famous frontman. The movie’s world premiere will take place June 5 at the OKX Theater. All of Culture Club’s members appear in the film, sharing the band’s story in their own words.

Billy Joel: And So It Goes

As previously reported, Billy Joel: And So It Goes’ world premiere takes place June 4 at the Beacon Theatre. An official synopsis of the film explains that it offers “an expansive portrait of the life and music of Billy Joel, exploring the love, loss, and personal struggles that fuel his songwriting.” The flick will feature “never-before-seen performances, home movies, and personal photographs, along with extensive, in-depth one-on-one interviews.”
