When it comes to country music heartbreak, everyone knows the George Jones classics. When it comes to 80s music, nothing quite hits like “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” or a Phil Collins jam. However, if you’re looking for some music that’s a little more honky-tonk and a little less known, here are some forgotten country songs from the 80s that will also do the trick.
“Somewhere In My Broken Heart” by Randy Travis
In this song, Randy Travis takes an interesting approach to heartbreak, singing about the forgiveness aspect of the whole ordeal. It sounds like the country singer isn’t quite ready to give up on an old flame in this song that was written by Billy Dean and Richard Leigh.

Dean also released this song a few years after Travis in 1991. His version reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.
“Getting Over You” by Alabama
Yeah, this one is pretty sorrowful. In “Getting Over You”, released on Alabama’s album My Home’s In Alabama, the narrator struggles to get over an ex-lover.
I can’t seem to get you off my mind
No matter what I do
I’m trying to wipe you from my eyes
But the tears keep fallin’ through
The hardest thing that love has put me through (ooh)
Is gettin’ over you (over you), gettin’ over you.
“I Hope You’re Never Happy” by Dolly Parton
In this song, Parton admits that she’s not just the type to let things go. “I Hope You’re Never Happy” is basically a more traditional country version of “happier” by Olivia Rodrigo. I hope you’re happy, but you better not be happier than you were when we were together!
