“You Should Try Out for ‘The Voice’”: Huntley’s New Song Is a Testament to His Faith

It’s been a little over a year since Huntley walked away from The Voice with the $100,000 grand prize and contract with Republic Records. Since then, he has walked away from that record deal, releasing two songs under a new independent label. The gravelly-voiced Virginia blues-rocker has promised “some things that no Voice winner or contestants have ever done before” in the coming year. And recently, he further demonstrated his commitment to furthering his career with a preview of a brand-new song.

Huntley’s New Song Is a Testament to His Faith

Since winning season 24 of The Voice, Huntley has released the songs “Tell Me When It’s Over” and “Skyline Drive.” In a recent post to Instagram, the 34-year-old father of two gave fans a glimpse of what’s next.

“This past year the best thing that has happened to me is my growing bond with the Lord,” he wrote. “Just felt like somebody needed to hear this today. Love you all and God bless.”

The ballad finds Huntley’s narrator wondering, Will I make it into heaven? / Will I dance amongst the stars? / Will I hear the angels crying? / Will I see the ones I lost?

While the melody is slow and sparse, Huntley’s vocals are anything but. “Might be your best so far. Very moving,” one Instagram user commented. “I believe some people definitely needed to hear it today or any day.”

“You Should Try Out For ‘The Voice!’”

Huntley’s latest project also caught the eye of his fellow season 24 finalist. “Oh my gosh!  You should try out for the Voice!” wrote Jacquie Roar, who finished fourth.

Huntley went along with the joke, replying, “Not sure if I’d make it or not.”

Fortunately, Roar offered some tongue-in-cheek advice. “Maybe if you tried braiding your hair so you have more of a signature look. You could sing Dead or Alive or something cool like that,” she wrote. “I think you’d go far. Maybe not win the whole thing… but at least you could get some exposure.”

The Voice kicks off a brand-new season on NBC at 8 p.m. Eastern on Monday, Feb. 3.
