John Legend Emotionally Performs His Song With ‘The Voice’ Contestant Jacquelyn George

Jacquelyn George will never forget her blind audition on The Voice. The 27-year-old from Franklin, Tennessee, auditioned for the show after years in the shadow of her brother, who was in the boy band Plus One.

“With having such a high bar, I tended to compare myself a lot to that… It’s almost like if I don’t try I won’t fail,” she said. “But it only takes one person to believe in you. I’m only here because of my husband… This is the first time in my life where I can shine and let my voice be heard as an individual.”

George opted to perform Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” for her blind audition, and quickly earned a chair turn from John Legend. Just when Legend thought he’d nab George without a fight, Adam Levine turned his chair too.

“You need to be heard,” Legend told George, before quipping, “I’m so glad you get to do it on The Voice. On Team Legend.”

Levine was bothered by Legend’s confidence, complaining, “So I guess that’s how it’s going to be.”

After Levine’s pitch to George, she bonded with coach Kelsea Ballerini over church. Legend noted that he too draws inspiration from church and specifically pointed to his 2004 track, “Ordinary People.”

George revealed that she sang that song at her wedding. She also had her first dance to “Never Break,” which Legend released in 2020.

Upon hearing this, Legend asked for a mic and took to the stage to perform “Ordinary People” with George. The contestant was giddy with the turn of events and delivered an unforgettable performance with the coach. So much so that Levine bemoaned, “Congratulations. I’ll see y’all later.”

Levine’s prediction was correct, as the impromptu duet convinced George to join Team John.

“I was so impressed with her,” George’s new coach told the cameras after his win.

The Voice airs Mondays at 8/7c on NBC.
