With an emotional audition performance of judge Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” Breanna Nix has stood out to American Idol viewers from the very beginning. The 25-year-old stay-at-home mom from Texas is still in it at the Top 7. She is hoping to become the second woman to win the show in as many years. Tonight, on Disney Night, Nix stunned once again with an incredible performance.

Breanna Nix Takes on ‘Mulan’ in ‘American Idol’ Top 7 Performance
With Disney Night returning to American Idol, Breanna Nix selected—in my unbiased opinion—one of the best Disney songs ever. Taking the stage, she belted “Reflection,” recorded by Christina Aguilera for the 1999 film Mulan.
Wow. Breanna's rendition of Reflections is everything I needed right now! #AmericanIdol

Who is that girl I see, staring straight back at me? Nix sang. When will my reflection show who I am inside?
Dude, Breanna just kilt that performance #AmericanIdol

The self-acceptance anthem is a fitting one for the Top 7 finalist’s Idol journey. Committing to her own physical health after the 2021 birth of her son, Emerson, Nix has since dropped more than 100 pounds.
“I just remember being in the delivery room and just looking down at him knowing that, if I wanted to be the best mom that I could, this lifestyle was not going to work,” she told producers. “I decided to lose weight.”
That self-improvement quest hasn’t stopped throughout her time in the spotlight, either. “When I tried out for American Idol, I didn’t really think that it would go anywhere. It was kind of just a joke when I submitted a video and here we are,” Nix told People magazine. “I’ve grown so much as a person and in my personal opinion, American Idol has been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. It’s taught me who I am. It’s taught me what I’m capable of.”

Not Just a Stay-At-Home Mom
American Idol viewers have grown to love Breanna Nix and her young son, Emerson, who sat on judge Carrie Underwood’s lap during his mom’s audition. Along with her fellow Top 7 competitors, Nix recently spoke to Parade about what Mother’s Day (today) means to her.
“Being on American Idol, I am over here one second trying to learn a song and rehearse. And the next second, I am on the phone trying to tell my husband, ‘Make sure Emerson has this,’ or trying to deal with an ear infection a couple of weeks ago,” she said. “So it’s definitely a lot of balance. Moms should be appreciated the most on Mother’s Day.”
