Bruce Springsteen’s latest advance track from his upcoming archival box set, Tracks II: The Lost Albums, is a lush, melodic ballad called “Sunday Love.” The tune finds the Boss delving into chamber-pop sounds influenced by Burt Bacharach.

The track is part of Twilight Hours, one of the seven previously unheard albums featured on Tracks II. According to a press statement, Twilight Hours is “an ode to the great American pop music tradition.” The album’s songs were written over the course of a decade at the same time that Springsteen was amassing tunes for his 2019 studio effort Western Stars.
Bruce described Twilight Hours as a collection of “romantic, lost-in-the-city songs” reflecting on people dealing with heartbreak. The press release further notes that Springsteen took inspiration for the material on the album from the singing of Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams, the writings of Flannery O’Connor and James M. Cain, and the 1947 noir thriller Out of the Past, which starred Robert Mitchum.
“Sunday Love” features contributions from E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg and backing singers Patti Scialfa and Soozie Tyrell. Producer Ron Aniello played guitar, piano, and percussion on the track, while Springsteen’s Western Stars collaborators Kaveh Rastegar and Scott Tibbs contributed bass and keyboards, respectively.
Springsteen’s Comments About the Twilight Hours Album
In a statement, Springsteen discussed his initial plans for the release of the songs featured on Twilight Hours.
“At one time [Twilight Hours] was either a double record [with Western Stars] or they were part of the same record,” Bruce explained. “I love Burt Bacharach and I love those kinds of songs and those kinds of songwriters. I took a swing at it because the chordal structures and everything are much more complicated, which was fun for me to pull off. All this stuff could have come right off of those sixties albums.”
“Sunday Love” is available now as a digital download and via streaming services. It’s the sixth advance track released from the Tracks II: The Lost Albums box set.
