On Saturday, thousands gathered around Washington, D.C. to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States Army. Thanks to the White House, the celebration was more than a speech as it included musical performances from Warren Zeiders, a full-blown parade, and even fireworks. While a moment to honor the military and celebrate America, one moment stood out when the U.S. Army chorus decided to honor Toby Keith with a special performance of “American Soldier” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Besides his legacy in country music, every fan of Keith knew his love for the military. Always willing to go above and beyond for service members, the singer often traveled into dangerous areas just to put on a concert, hoping to boost morale. Over the years, countless service members discussed the impact Keith had on them. Sadly, Keith passed away in 2024.

Keeping his memory alive, Keith’s “American Soldier” started to play as fireworks lit up the night sky. A touching moment during the celebration, the White House administration stood during the presentation. While the song played, eventually the U.S. Army Chorus started to sing alongside Keith’s vocals with “Battle Hymn Of The Republic.” The two songs blended perfectly together to celebrate both Keith and the Army. After honoring America and the military for decades, the Army found the perfect time to honor Keith.
Toby Keith Was The Highlight Of The Army’s 250th Birthday Celebration
As for the celebration, the parade offered a look into the history of the army with tanks, WWII Jeeps, and service members walking down the streets. Running late into the night, the Army’s Golden Knights Parachute Team also showcased their tactical expertise when diving over the crowds.
But no matter the size of the tank or the bang of the firework, Keith stole the night as fans wrote:
“My wife and I live just a few miles from Toby’s place. He took time to talk to me in 2023 while I was overseas. He had just come out in public since his treatments. He was so nice to my wife and all of us here in our community. He is Oklahoma’s country hero.”
“Brought a tear to my eye. Somebody’s peeling onions up in here! Sure do miss Toby. ”
“I can’t think of a better honor than to mix his beautiful song with Battle Hymn of the Republic”
