Aaron Lee Tasjan Readies New Vinyl LP 'Naked Pop Songs Live!'

Eclectic singer/songwriter Aaron Lee Tasjan is ready to share his first album fully comprised of live recordings. Set for release on November 10, Naked Pop Songs Live! will be available exclusively on vinyl at select independent record stores.

The project, limited to 500 pressings worldwide, includes ten tracks captured during six live performances from March 2022. Naked Pop Songs Live! spotlights stellar songs from throughout Tasjan’s career, including “Little Movies,” “My Camera,” and the unreleased “Framptongate ’18.”

“Live albums can serve as a conduit to a time and space that will never exist again,” Tasjan says in a statement. “When they’re done right, they have the unique distinction of taking the listener to a place they may never have been before. Even I listen back to these songs and stories and hear things I didn’t realize or understand about them until they existed on this record. There are moments I hear the exhilaration of landing something unplanned or unexpected. I can hear my own fear at the attempts to take the songs somewhere a little different each night.

“There are successes and failures in each song,” he adds. “Some I had no control over: the ringing telephone, the sticky piano key, the freezing weather making it impossible to get the guitars fully acclimated by show time and so they end up out of tune on the recording. Beautifully out of tune. Nothing is perfect on a live album except for the experience of listening to it. What we hear on live records is a human being being who they are. Both less than they wish they were and more than they thought they were capable of being. It’s all there, it’s all real, and it’s beautiful.”

Tasjan has been hard at work on his upcoming studio album in recent months. The record, which finds the multi-talented songsmith pivoting from acoustic Americana to energizing glam rock, is expected to be released in early 2024.
