Album of the Year Nominee Drops Out of GRAMMY Awards, Issues Statement

Although the city of Los Angeles continues to deal with the massive wildfires that ripped through the city, the music industry looked to raise funds for those impacted by the devastation. With the GRAMMY Awards on Sunday night, the music industry will do more than celebrate singers and producers, the award will use the stage to help raise funds. Held at the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles, stars like Beyonce are sure to be on hand as she received the most nominations with 11. But not all stars will walk the red carpet as André 3000 shared some surprising news ahead of the awards.

André 3000 Issues Statement on GRAMMY Awards

Not sharing a lot of details surrounding his decision, André 3000 announced he would not be in attendance at the GRAMMY Awards. Looking at the post, he wrote, “Unfortunately, I’m not able to attend the GRAMMYs tomorrow but some of the New Blue Sun musicians, friends, and supporters will be in attendance.” The news is somewhat surprising given that he is up for a few awards including album of the year, best instrumental composition, and best alternative jazz album.

André 3000 Celebrates Work Put Into ‘New Blue Sun’

With the post already climbing over 40,000 likes, André 3000 took a moment to praise all the work that went into the album. “Our album was conceived and recorded in Los Angeles with spirit of openness and creative collaboration. We hope that the rebound of Los Angeles is swift and renewing. Congrats to all the musicians and collaborators being acknowledged. Keep playing.”

As for the relief efforts and helping those hurt by the wildfires, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. explained how the GRAMMYs was focused on more than just music this year. “The upcoming GRAMMY Awards won’t just be about celebrating and honoring the best in music this year, it will also show how the power of music can help rebuild, uplift and support those in need.”

Watching both Hollywood and the music industry join forces to fight the fires, Mason concluded, “We are thrilled that so many artists in our community are banding together at this time to show support for their fellow music makers and others impacted by the recent wildfires.”
