The Coachella crowd has been getting roasted online recently, following a slew of videos of various performers giving their all to noticeably lukewarm attendees at this year’s music festival. Benson Boone, in particular, was not very happy at the lack of hype around Brian May’s recent performance.
The 22-year-old singer/songwriter recently took to TikTok to post a video of him lip-syncing “Bohemian Rhapsody” into a banana instead of a microphone, looking disappointed at an uninterested imaginary crowd. The caption was a pretty clear dig at the Coachella audiences this year.

“Me trying to get the crowd at Coachella to understand what an absolute legend Brian May is and the cultural impact he has on music and THE WORLD,” the caption read.
It looks like a lot of Boone’s fans share his sentiment.
“And no one realizes that Brian May had a stroke back in September that paralyzed his left arm,” said one commenter on Boone’s TikTok video. “So just the fact that this 77-year-old man recovered enough to even do this performance is a privilege.”
“COACHELLA DIDN’T DESERVE BRIAN MAY,” said another.
Brian May’s Surprise Performance at Coachella Last Weekend Was Actually Incredible
On Friday, April 11, Benson Boone performed a pretty incredible cover of Queen’s famed 1975 song “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The band’s famed guitarist, Brian May, stepped out with his axe to Boone’s delight. They both finished the song with flying colors, and Boone’s energy was palpable. Who wouldn’t be excited about performing with the Brian May? Though, I’d personally be scared of jumping clean over Brian May’s head in front of thousands of people.
Sadly, it looks like the crowd wasn’t nearly as excited as Boone.
Brian May, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to be too phased by the lack of love at Coachella. He simply took to Instagram to thank the folks who “made it feel so special.” He also said that he was “awestruck” by Benson and his team.
There’s a plethora of reasons why the crowd might not have been so enthused, much of which could come down to the hot weather and long lines. However, I doubt the age of the crowd is the reason behind the lukewarm response to May. Benson Boone is only 22 years old, and he’s well aware of May’s legacy. Maybe Coachella just isn’t as fun as it used to be.
