Big Shots: Watch Billy Joel Perform with Axl Rose and John Mayer at His Recent Los Angeles-Area Concert

Billy Joel said hello to Hollywood, well, nearby Inglewood, California, on Saturday, October 12, when he played his latest headlining concert at the Intuit Dome. The Piano Man also said hello to a couple of big-name music stars who joined him onstage during the show.

Joel played a marathon 31-song set, and a bit before the halfway point, he welcomed John Mayer to the stage. Mayer added tasteful blues-guitar licks and a couple of beautifully melodic solos to a rendition of Billyโ€™s 1986 hit โ€œThis Is the Time.โ€ Mayer previously had played โ€œThis Is the Timeโ€ with Joel in new York City at Billyโ€™s Madison Square Garden residency show in October 2015 and at one of Joelโ€™s famous final Shea Stadium concerts in July 2008.

Joel also brought out Guns Nโ€™ Roses frontman Axl Rose at the Intuit Dome concert. Rose belted out a version of Paul McCartneyโ€™s hit 1973 James Bond theme โ€œLive and Let Die,โ€ a song GNโ€™R famously covered in 1991.

As seen in fan-shot video, in introducing Axl, Billy told the crowd, โ€œItโ€™s been fun working with this guy.โ€ Rose then embraced Joel before stepping the front of the stage to belt out the tune. Axl incorporated a couple of ear-piercing screams into his performance.

Rose also has joined Joel onstage at a couple of previous shows, including his final Madison Square Garden residency show, on July 25, 2024. At that concert, Axl sang three tunes with Billyโ€”โ€œLive and Let Die,โ€ a cover of AC/DCโ€™s โ€œHighway to Hell,โ€ and the Joel classic โ€œYou May Be Right.โ€

According to Setlist.fm, Joel also played a snippet of his 1974 song โ€œThe Mexican Connectionโ€ at the Intuit Dome. This marked the first time heโ€™d performed that tune in concert since 1984.

He also played a few interesting covers, including Led Zeppelinโ€™s โ€œGood Times, Bad Times,โ€ and The Tokensโ€™ 1961 hit โ€œThe Lion Sleeps Tonight.โ€ Another highlight was Joel welcoming his nine-year-old daughter Della Rose to the stage to sing โ€œMy Lifeโ€ with him.
