“Country radio, you’ve always allowed me to be unapologetically me,” Pearce wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for this, I’m so grateful & honestly blown away.”

The duet was released on June 16. Written by Pearce, Shane McAnally, and Pete Good, “We Don’t Fight Anymore” acts as the follow-up to Pearce’s lauded third album, 29Written In Stone.

We don’t yell ’cause what the hell difference would it make? / We don’t cuss and we don’t care enough to even hate / We could tear up the house, we could burn the whole thing down / But boy what for? ‘Cause we don’t even fight anymore, they sing in the chorus.

“I’ve always wanted to write music that makes people feel something—whether that is feeling seen, less alone, happy or even uncomfortable,” Pearce said in a statement prior to the song’s release. “‘We Don’t Fight Anymore’ felt like I was writing one of those stories that, whether or not we want to include it in our social media highlight reel, we’ve either been there or are living there right now.”

The duet came about in a unique way. Pearce took to Morgane Stapleton’s Instagram DMs in an effort to get the “Tennessee Whiskey” singer to listen to the song.

“I think the best thing that you can do is go to somebody’s wife,” Pearce told SiriusXM’s The Highway. “So I DM’d Morgane on Instagram. I said, ‘Hey, I know this is super weird, but I have this song that I really want Chris to hear. Do you mind if I send it?’

“And she was like, ‘Girl, call me tomorrow,’” she continued. “So I call her and she was like, ‘You know, we get asked to do a lot of stuff and we’ll listen, but can we be honest if it’s not the right fit?’ or whatever, right timing. I was like, ‘Of course, just let him hear it.’ Literally, the night before I won my first Grammy, I got a text from her saying that he would love to do it. And so it was just like the most mind blowing weekend of my life.”
