Cass McCombs Announces Release Date For Mangy Love

Videos by American Songwriter

As announced last month, Cass McCombs’ eighth studio album Mangy Love is due August 26. Now, McCombs has shared a brand new tune from the album, “Run Sister Run.” The single is inspired by Occupy Wall Street protester Cecily McMillan, and seeks to bring attention to gender-discrimination in the judiciary system.

Mangy Love follows McCombs’ 2015 release, A Folk Set Apart, and is his debut for ANTI- Records. The 39-year-old California native uses Mangy Love to take on political issues and explore genre influences that range from soul to psychedelia.

With groove-saturated melodies, McCombs is known for his low-key indie rock, and has toured with artists that include Cat Power, Andrew Bird, Iron and Wine, and Jana Hunter. He tours the US this fall with a full band.
