1. Diana Ross and Brian Jones (1968)

A soul queen and a rock giant? What more could we want out of an unlikely duo. The photo below sees Diana Ross and Rolling Stones’ founder Brian Jones at a party hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Bedford. The get-together was in honor of The Supremes show on Sunday Night At the London Palladium. Though we wouldn’t put these two together, it is an effective snapshot of the late ’60s that we’re glad has been preserved for posterity.

2. Michael Jackson and Steven Tyler (1977)

We love a good themed party, and apparently, so did Michael Jackson and Steven Tyler. The photo below sees the duo in the midst of a Studio 54 party themed around Beatlemania. Given that the Fab Four broke up seven years prior, it seems their fellow musicians wanted to relive their glory days.

3. Tina Turner and the Rolling Stones (1981)

According to Tina Turner, Mick Jagger stole his famously eccentric dance moves from her. But, as we can see from the photo below, her claims were all made with love for the British rocker and his bandmates. This image sees Turner at a Stones show in the early ’80s at JFK Stadium.

4. Peter, Paul McCartney, and Mary (1968)

Paul McCartney acted as a stand in for Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul, and Mary in the photo below from 1968. Luckily for them, they could essentially keep the same band name.

5. Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash (1969)

Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash famously performed together on The Johnny Cash show in the late ’60s. Together, they played the haunting “Girl from the North Country.” It’s a beloved moment in both artists’ history.
