Dressed in denim outfits and cowboy hats, the duo of 27-year-old Brooke and 25-year-old Jack shared how they met when they randomly became roommates, only to discover that they grew up in the same hometown and went to rival high schools. They didn’t know each other until they both moved to Nashville “to chase our dreams,” Brooke said.

They started off the audition with a stripped-down, acoustic cover of Luke Bryan’s “Country Girl (Shake it For Me)” that showed off their sparkling harmonies. But they were stopped in the middle of the performance by judge Simon Cowell, who requested that they sing their backup song. “This is my greatest dream as a songwriter to sing a song that I’ve written in front of a thousand people,” Jack shared before launching into a performance of an original song. “So thank you so much for this opportunity.”

This led to a poignant tune about a young woman who has to take care of her family, leaning on her faith to get her through the challenges. When I was young, I had to be old/When I found God he told me/Baby I don’t waste no time it all works out/Just wait and see/I know it’s scary/The unknown, they sing, with Brooke taking lead vocals and Jack providing gentle supporting harmonies.

“You two have beautiful voices,” judge Sofia Vergara raved, adding that performing the original song was the right choice. Trailer Flowers didn’t win over judge Howie Mandel. While they are “good singers, great is what we’re looking for,” he said to boos from the crowd and Cowell. Judge Heidi Klum admired the friendship between Jack and Brooke, as well as their harmonies. “I really like the two of you,” she said.

Trailer Flowers earned three yeses, advancing them to the next round.
