Morgan’s performance was canceled, but the 59-year-old singer, his wife, his band, and his crew all were unharmed. He posted a video on his Facebook page on Sunday (October 15) in which he discussed the incident and thanked the Dallas police for their quick response.

“Some of you may have seen me,” he noted in the clip. “My wife was actually out on the grounds when it was happening. So, I ran out to get her and get her back and secured. And in the process of doing so, I was doing everything I could to let everybody know just to get out of there and find a safe place.”

Morgan also posted a message on his Facebook page on Saturday (October 14). “Thank you to the Dallas Police Department and first responders for their quick action in apprehending the suspected gunman at the Texas State Fair,” he said. “While my band and crew are blessedly safe, I ask you to join me in praying for everyone involved in this horrific incident.”

Morgan is a first responder himself, and last summer he signed up for the U.S. Army Reserves. This Friday, October 20, the singer will release a new six-song collaborative EP titled Enlisted that features guest appearances by Luke Combs, Blake Shelton, Jelly Roll, and Lainey Wilson, among others.

The EP offers reimagined versions of some of Morgan’s biggest hits, including “Redneck Yacht Club” featuring Shelton, “International Harvester” with Wilson, and “That’s What I Love About Sunday” featuring Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts. The EP also contains two new songs, with Combs appearing on “Raise the Bar” and Trace Adkins on “That Ain’t Gonna Be Me.” Jelly Roll appears on a new rendition of “Almost Home,” a Top 10 hit from Morgan’s 2003 sophomore album, I Love It.
