Dave Grohl, Chad Smith, and Shane Hawkins Perform as Chevy Metal at Rock & Roll Pizza Bar

Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters, Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Shane Hawkins son of Taylor Hawkins, played a concert at the Rock & Roll Pizza Bar in Simi Valley, California. The trio played the show as Chevy Metal, a cover band that served as the side project of late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who passed away in 2022.

Chevy Metal played 17 songs throughout the set, which featured songs by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Mötley Crüe, and opened with  “Next To You” by The Police. The musicians also played three tracks by Van Halen, which include “Jamie’s Cryin,” “Everybody Wants Some!!” and “Unchained.”

Shane has played with Chevy Metal before, with the star-studded cover band playing sets earlier this year in California. At one of the earlier performances, Shane played covers of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath songs with Sebastian Bach of Skid Row.

Foo Fighters are currently on their first tour since the tragic death of Taylor. At the first show of the tour, Grohl offered a heartfelt tribute to the drummer while performing at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavillion on May 24. Grohl gave a teary-eyed speech before breaking into the song “Cold Day In The Sun,” which was written by Hawkins.

“Now I have to say, this is…something I’d never thought I’d have to do. I’m gonna try and do it,” Grohl said during the concert in May. “Taylor wrote this song. We used to sing it together. So I’m gonna do it for him tonight.”
