Original KISS drummer Peter Criss hasn’t released a solo album since 2007, but that’s apparently set to change later this year. The legendary beat-keeper announced plans to release a new, hard-rocking solo record in the fall of 2025.

Criss unveiled details about the album in a recent YouTube video interview with KissFAQ podcast host Julian Gil, and in a post on his own official website.
In the clip, the 79-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer says, “I have an announcement. I have my new rock ‘n’ roll album, to you KISS Army guys, coming out in the fall. And I really hope you like it, man. And I want to say God bless to each and every one of you.”
Gil then noted, “Now this is a hard-rock, kick-a– album. [It was] co-produced by Barry Pointer, who’s worked with Ozzy [Osbourne], Marilyn Manson, [Cinderella drummer] Fred Coury, [Billy Idol guitarist] Steve Stevens, amongst others, and, of course, [current Mötley Crüe guitarist] John 5.”
Criss added, “What can I say? We had a ball.”
Criss’ Online Message About the Album
In a post on PeterCriss.net, Criss also shared details about the new album.
He revealed that among the musicians who contributed to the record were Michael McLaughlin, who played guitar in his solo band; John 5; Mr. Big bassist Billy Sheehan; current Marilyn Manson/ex-Rob Zombie bassist Piggy D.; and Paul Shaffer. Peter also shared that some “great backup singers” lent their talents to the album—Dennis and Sharron Collins, and Cathryn Manning of the band Cat5.
Lastly, Criss explained that he’ll “be doing more in-depth interviews closer to the release date in the fall.” He added, “I look forward to seeing you all soon.”
Gil Shared More Information About Criss’ Album
In the video, Gil revealed that he’d heard the album, and he went on to share more details about it.
“I was honored to listen to this album in Peter’s studio with him … and it was absolutely amazing to hear this new music,” the podcast said. “It was vibrant and powerful. I’m so excited for it to be released, and I think KISS fans are gonna love this album.”
Gil continued, “Peter’s drum sound is absolutely massive, and his vocals are powerful. Barry Pointer’s production is stunning, and Peter’s got an incredible group of musicians and background vocalists behind him.”
He then talked a bit about the guest musicians’ contributions to the album.
“Billy Sheehan, as you would expect, delivers incredible, perfect, and spectacular bass lines, and he and Peter are locked in so tight, it’s amazing,” Gil noted. “Guitarist Mike McLaughlin, better known as ‘Angel’ from Criss circles, delivers some scorching guitar work on this album, as, of course, does the electric troubadour himself, John 5. Matthew Montgomery, better known as Piggy D. … is on bass on some songs. And Paul Shaffer is a monster on B3 [organ] and piano.”
He added, “Peter has written some very powerful songs here and I’m so excited for you to hear them.”
More About Criss’ Solo Career
Criss has issued five solo studio albums to date. His first two, a 1978 self-titled effort and Out of Control (1980), were released when he was still a member of KISS.
Peter’s most recent solo effort, One for All, came out in 2007.
Criss Recently Received a Special Honor
On April 25, Criss was presented with Raven Drum Foundation’s Legacy Award at the charity’s second annual benefit concert. The event, which also featured various performances, was held at The Cutting Room in New York City.
Raven Drum Foundation was co-founded by Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen and his wife, singer/songwriter Lauren Monroe.
Allen and Monroe performed at the benefit, as will many other well-known musicians. The show’s lineup also included former Blue Öyster Cult members Joe Bouchard and Albert Bouchard, longtime Bryan Adams drummer Mickey Curry, Mountain drummer Corky Laing, influential R&B/funk drummer Bernard Purdie, ex-Joan Jett & the Blackhearts guitarist Ricky Byrd, and longtime Todd Rundgren bassist Kasim Sulton.
Raven Drum Foundation’s mission is to bring together musicians, health educators, and philanthropists together to support first responders and veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress.
