This year’s Grammy Awards show is slated for February 2. The biggest night in music is scheduled to take place at the Cypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles. However, wildfires are currently raging through the city. As a result, the Grammys will be postponed until later this year. On the other hand, the show may happen as scheduled but transformed into a fundraiser for those impacted by the fires.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, several sources close to the event have revealed that discussions about how to handle this year’s Grammy Awards show in light of the wildfires are currently “underway.” To say that things are still up in the air would be an understatement. However, THR’s sources lean toward two possibilities.

How Will the Los Angeles Wildfires Impact the Grammy Awards?
One insider told the publication that the Grammy Awards and other events surrounding the awards show will be postponed. Putting together a massive event like the Grammys becomes nearly impossible with a disastrous wildfire ravaging the city. This goes further than just getting everyone to and from the venue safely. Artists who are coming into the city for the event need hotel rooms. Additionally, many music industry professionals have lost homes, gear, and more to the blaze. As a result, they may be displaced and unable to attend the event. Additionally, the Crypto.com Arena has recently postponed many games in light of the fires. These things make postponing the event seem like the most likely outcome. However, it is not the only outcome insiders have predicted.
On the other hand, the Grammy Awards may go on as planned with one major change. Showrunners may decide to make the major broadcast event a fundraiser for those impacted by the wildfires.
This wouldn’t be the first time the Grammys have been postponed. The Recording Academy moved the 2021 Grammys from January to March in 2021 due to the pandemic. The next year saw the show moved from January to April after a new variant of the virus spiked across the country. Additionally, the 2022 Grammys took place in Las Vegas for the first time.
With the show less than a month away, the Recording Academy will likely make a decision in the coming days.
