Although going through some major lineup changes over the years, Journey continues to travel the world, selling over 100 million albums. Having spent decades on the road, the band quickly learned the dedication and stress that comes with helming a tour. And with that stress comes the unknown. While Journey focused on preparing, practicing, and checking equipment, the band unexpectedly had to cancel a performance at RodeoHouston when a mysterious fire broke out.

Taking the stage at the NRG Stadium, fans were thrilled to watch Journey perform a few of their hit songs. And when entertaining the crowd with “Don’t Stop Believin’”, the sound suddenly cut out. As fans watched, the crew rushed the stage with fire extinguishers as the members of the band made their way to the back. While somewhat confused as to what happened, an announcement revealed Journey would not continue the performance due to an electrical fire near the drum riser.

Journey Tried To Play While Stage Was On Fire
Sharing a post on Instagram, Drummer Deen Castronovo revealed what exactly happened and the danger he found himself in. “Hey, Houston. An act of God tonight. Fire broke out underneath the stage – right under my drum riser! I was literally on fire for 4 ½ songs, all the power cables melted, and the show was a bust! That doesn’t mean we won’t be back soon, because we love you all – and we will return. God bless you all!”
Not able to continue to perform due to electrical issues, RodeoHouston looked to make it right for fans. Releasing their own statement, the organizers said, “Due to an unforeseen electrical incident under the stage area, we regretfully announce the cancellation of tonight’s Journey concert. We sincerely apologise to all fans for this disappointment. Our team is working diligently to assess the situation, and we will provide updates regarding rescheduling options and or refunds as soon as possible.”
Making sure to take care of fans who can’t make a second performance, RodeoHouston looked at ways to give them their money back. While Journey looked forward to entertain the crowd at the event, thankfully, nobody was injured from the fire.
