Weird Al Yankovic is an untouchable force to be reckoned with, and has been for decades. His unique way around a parody is unmatched, but there are some in the musical comedy world that channel his essence in equally unique ways. While these aren’t exactly parody artists, the following three musicians still know how to make us laugh over and over again. While Weird Al is a comedy chameleon, the following artists merely represent parts of the whole.

Bo Burnham

Bo Burnham has been in the musical comedy sphere since 2006 when he started uploading videos to YouTube. He’s had successful comedy specials over the years, culminating in the project Inside from 2021. There, he shed his goofy internet kid persona and took on real-world issues with humor and wit. And a healthy dose of cynicism, confusion, and hopelessness. However, Inside helped a lot of people get through the pandemic, as it said out loud what we were all thinking: this sucks, when will it end.

Lemon Demon

Lemon Demon AKA Neil Cicierega, is kind of like a darker, weirder Weird Al. He is the definition of unhinged in the best way. Where else will you get songs about an arcade game cabinet with a man inside it, or wearing a mask of your own face, or the entirety of the movie Jaws? With hyper-specific themes and endlessly witty phrases that most likely no one has ever uttered before, Lemon Demon is for all you freaks out there looking for an anthropologically improbable girlfriend. Just don’t let the no-eyed people in, please.

The Doohickeys

And now for something completely different but also not, The Doohickeys are like if Weird Al wrote original country songs. The duo pokes fun at the usual country themes while also being country music fans, utilizing satire for songs like “I Wish My Truck Was Bigger,” “9 to 6,” and “This Town Sucks.” They have a delightful handful of songs out and are growing on social media, where they post hilarious videos and song snippets. The Doohickeys are really just a great time all around if you’re into country music.
