While auditioning for American Idol, Jamal Roberts was just a Mississippi P.E. teacher with a dream of stardom. That dream became a reality on Sunday when he won season 23 of American Idol. Celebrating the massive achievement, the singer shared the stage with judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan. Leaving with $250,000 and a record deal, it seemed that Roberts had more to celebrate as he welcomed another member to his growing family just days earlier.

Focusing on the season finale, Roberts had little time to think about home and his family. But at the same time, he knew he was about to add another daughter to his life. Already the dad to two girls, the singer recently posted a picture of his new baby on Instagram. In the picture, the small baby fashioned a small ladybug costume. Excited to share her with the world, Roberts wrote, “Hey world, meet my little ladybug, Gianna Grace Roberts. I’m so proud to be her father.”
After finishing his time on the stage during the season finale of American Idol, USA Today asked Roberts what he was going to do. As a new father, he only wanted one thing – “I’m going to see my daughter, Gianna. I’ve got a lot of making up to do.”
Jamal Roberts Ready To Get To Work After ‘American Idol’ Win
With Roberts ready to get back home and spend time with his children, the singer wasn’t about to let his opportunity slip by. Besides the cash prize, he also landed a record deal thanks to the win. Getting the chance to record an album, Roberts’ future appeared bright. And for fans who supported him along the way, they continued to praise his talents. “Haven’t watched American Idol since Fantasia won. I cast my first vote since season 3 for you and voted every single week. The most votes cast in a finale in Idol history??? You brought the people out!!! The choice was clear since day 1! Congratulations!!”
Only seeing the win as the beginning, Roberts promised his fans in a separate post, “Now, I get to make music with the best in the world and share my story. But this isn’t the end… it’s just the beginning. From the bottom of my heart…. THANK YOU! None of this happens without y’all.”
