Katy Perry is set to receive the 2024 Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMAs, which will air on September 11 following a rescheduling. MTV also announced that Perry will be performing at the award show in her return to live performing after seven years on American Idol.
โKaty is a musical powerhouse and true pop culture icon,โ Bruce Gillmer, a Paramount executive, said in a press release, per a report from Rolling Stone. โWith her game-changing creative vision, she has become a global phenomenon and taken over the worldโs biggest stages.โ

Perry is adding Video Vanguard to the list of Moon Persons she’s received at VMAs of years past. She won Video of the Year for โFirework,” Best Collab and Best Special Effects for โE.T.,” Best Art Direction for โWide Awake,” and Best Female Video for โDark Horse.”
MTV called for all the Katy Perry fans in the comments of the Instagram announcement, writing, “KATYCATS RISE UP.” Additionally, fans gathered to show their support. “THE MOST DESERVED VANGUARD AWARD EVER!” one enthusiastic fan wrote. “SHE’S A LEGEND!!!” another commented. Fans are clearly ecstatic over the news, noting that Perry has “ONE OF THE BIGGEST VIDEOGRAPHIES OF AAAAALLLLLL TIMEEEEEEE,” as one person wrote.

As for her VMAs performing experience, she’s got that in the bag as well. She’s performed twice at the VMAs, once in 2013, and another time in 2017. With the release of two new singles from her upcoming album, “Woman’s World” and “Lifetimes,” she’ll have plenty to preview for fans.
โKatyโs prowess will be on full display LIVE on the VMAs with a canโt-miss, career-encompassing performance celebrating her biggest moments and chart-topping hits,โ continued Gillmer in the release.
The VMAs are also set to feature Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, and more taking the stage. Sabrina, Chappell, and GloRilla are also nominated in numerous categories, including Artist of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best Hip-Hop. Additionally, Katy Perry’s new album, 143, is set to drop on September 20, just a little over a week after the VMAs.
