Growing up with a family that listened to Buck Owens and Glen Campbell, Lainey Wilson was raised with country music. The country singer even started to write songs as a child and visited the Grand Ole Opry. Once at the Opry, Wilson knew what she wanted to do with her life. And although she now sits on top of country music, Wilson never forgot where she came from as she recently discussed performing in Walmart with Jimmy Fallon.

Having appeared on The Tonight Show before as a performer, Wilson returned to the show, but this time – as a guest. Able to sit beside Fallon, the two seemed like old friends as Wilson plugged her newest album Whirlwind. But when the conversation took a turn to her childhood, the rising star opened up about what it took to become a top talent in the music industry.
Although performing in front of thousands now, once, Wilson performed inside Walmart to anyone willing to listen. “I would play anywhere they would let me play. I’m talking about nursing homes, flatbed trailers. Anywhere that… my parents would be like, ‘Hey Lainey, sing that song you just wrote last week’ for anybody. And I’d just do it.”

Lainey Wilson Wrote Her First Song At 9 Years Old
While starting her career early, Fallon wanted to know the exact moment she decided to chase a career in country music. Wilson replied once again, “I wrote my first song at nine years old and I got bit by the bug. I think it’s because I’m from a town of 180 people – Baskin, Louisiana.”
No matter the place or time, Wilson was always willing to take a chance when it came to her dream. Having to suffer through some dark times like many before her, the singer gained praise from fans. “Her voice is amazing very old american like the cowboy old movies.” Another person added, “Your videos are always so heartfelt and fun at the same time! Thank you for your ability to bring joy and smiles into our lives!”
While probably still loving Walmart, Wilson’s stardom propelled her to venues that fit a little more people than the local Walmart.
