Legendary Rock Band Calls It Quits After 63 Years as Last Two Classic-Era Members Retire

For over six decades, The Hollies have traveled the world, performing hit songs like โ€œStay,โ€ โ€œJust One Look,โ€ and โ€œYes I Will.โ€ Having released dozens of albums and topped the charts, the band added their name to each new generation of music. But after a glorious career on stage that landed The Hollies in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the band has officially come to an end. With longtime members Tony Hicks and Bobby Elliott deciding to retire, the final chapter of The Hollies has closed.ย

As both musicians are in their 80s, it seemed like the right time to retire. Releasing a statement, it read, โ€œDue to health reasons, Tony has decided to step away from touring. Out of respect for Tony and everything they have shared throughout their remarkable journey together, Bobby has also decided to retire from touring.โ€ย

Bobby Elliott Reveals His Favorite Part OF Stardom With The Hollies

Gaining thousands of likes, fans took a moment to celebrate The Hollies and the memories they shared. โ€œMy dad is a huge Hollies fan, he has a dementia diagnosis but I had the pleasure of taking him to a gig at the Palladium a couple of years ago. Its a memory I hold dearly. Trips to visit him are often filled with Hollies songs playing. I hope it brings memories to him of happier times. Thank you all for the music.โ€

While not the news some fans wanted to hear, most understood. And with the musicians dedicating the majority of their lives to performing, one person wrote, โ€œTony and Bobby have certainly earned their retirement and owe us nothing. Sincere best wishes for a healthy and happy retirement. Thanks for all the great musical gifts you gave us for six decades!โ€ย

Although leaving the stage behind him, Elliott promised to never forget the highs of performing in front of thousands of fans. โ€œThe live shows are so enjoyable, and the โ€“ I dare say โ€“ adulation at the end, and the standing ovation. You float off after that. And then you have a shower, get changed, have a drink, andโ€ฆthereโ€™s no better feeling. Thatโ€™s the best life for me.โ€ย

The Hollies finally brought their touring career to an end. For Hicks and Elliott, retirement marked a well-earned goodbye to the stage but not the music they helped make timeless.
