The hitmaker headlined BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend Festival in Scotland over the weekend and surprised fans with an acoustic-soaked Taylor Swift cover.

During the set on Sunday (May 28), the artist delivered his No.1 single “Before You Go,” sparking an ear-ringing sing–along. However, ticket-holders were thrown off guard when he seamlessly transitioned into Swift’s 2008 hit “Love Story.”

The Scottish singer jumped directly into the recognizable chorus and had his fans belt the rest of the lyrics as he strummed his acoustic guitar.

Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone, sang Capaldi. I’ll be waiting | All there’s left to do is run | You’ll be the prince, and I’ll be the princess | It’s a love story, baby, just say “Yes.”

This is far from the first time Capaldi displayed his love for Swift. In January, the powerhouse vocalist made a surprise appearance at The 1975 concert in Newcastle, England. After performing one of his tracks and “Antichrist” from 1975’s self-titled album, he decided to cover “Love Story.”

“I was going to sing one of my songs next, but I thought it would just be better to play a Taylor Swift song,” the Grammy-nominated singer confessed at the time.

The rendition came two weeks after Swift served as a surprise guest at The 1975 concert. The pop phenomenon joined the band at the O2 Arena in London to debut her Billboard Hot 100  track “Anti-Hero.”

Following the performance, romance rumors involving Swift and the 1975 frontman Matty Healy circulated. The speculation comes shortly after her breakup with Joe Alwyn. Capaldi was one of many curious about their relationship.

Capaldi turned to TikTok in early May to share a dramatic video backed by Carl Orff’s “O Fortuna” symphony.

“Random people on the internet preparing to give their thoughts on the ‘Taylor Swift/Matty Healy discourse,” wrote Capaldi over the clip. “The world must hear what I have to say.”

When fans asked the musician about his opinions in the comments, he was quick to reply.

“I have none,” he confirmed. Although Capaldi won’t weigh in on the Swift-Healy romance, he pointed out that he would like to collaborate with the “Cruel Summer” artist.

“How about a collab with Taylor, ’cause it would be No.1 @LewisCapaldi,” asked a follower on Twitter. “Would LOVE,” added Capaldi.
