Lorrie Morgan: “Nothing I Can Say Tonight Could Ever Express How Sad I Am”

“Heartbroken” at the passing of her “idol and friend,” Lorrie Morgan took to social media to share footage of a special performance. The “Something in Red” singer joined Kris Kristofferson for a duet of his heartbreaking 1970 ballad “Help Me Make It Through the Night.”

“I truly feel like I will always feel a loss in my soul just knowing he is no longer here among us,” Lorrie Morgan wrote in the caption. “Kris gave me the strength to believe in my own songwriting, and he wept many times when I would sing him my songs. I loved him deeply in my soul as a friend and artist.”

That love is on full display during the performance. Morgan can barely contain her glee as she sings beside Kristofferson. And the two frequently exchange tender looks as they direct the lyrics to one another. Let the devil take tomorrow / Lord tonight I need a friend / Yesterday is dead and gone / And tomorrow’s out of sight.

“I hope he is at peace with The Lord,” continued the two-time CMA Award winner. “I will always love you, Kris. Thanks for believing in me and giving me confidence in my writing.”
