The Department of Justice announced that 53-year-old Lisa Jeanine Findley was arrested this morning in Kimberling City, Missouri. The woman has been charged with aggravated identity theft and mail fraud. The charges connect with a plot to “steal” the Presley family’s famous Graceland property.
According to reports, Findley (also known as Lisa Holden and a number of other fake names) has a long history of attempting to scam and defraud victims. Her newest criminal venture involved attempting to extort Presley’s living family out of millions of dollars. She also allegedly attempted to steal their legal ownership of the late rock star’s Memphis, Tennessee home.
How a Missouri Woman Was Arrested and Charged for Trying To Defraud Elvis Presley’s Family and Steal Graceland
Prosecutors noted in the announcement that Findley orchestrated the attempt to steal Graceland using fraudulent PO boxes, false names, and fake phone numbers. The scam began in May of this year when a fake organization called Naussany Investments filed a claim saying that the late Lisa Marie Presley, the only daughter of Elvis Presley, owed the company millions in unpaid loans.
The Presley family did not pay the alleged unpaid loans. From there, Naussany Investments made a move to force the foreclosure of the Graceland property to collect their dues. The case did make headlines at the time. However, a Tennessee judge threw the case out when it became clear that all of the documents provided by Naussany Investments were forged.
Shortly after, someone who claimed to be a representative for the fake company got in touch with media outlets. They noted in their emails that the scheme was started by a Nigerian identity theft ring.
Back in June, Findley was interviewed by NBC News where she denied any involvement with the scam. However, new evidence has come to light that connects Findley with the forging of names, notary seals, and signatures in order to create the fake documents filed by Naussany Investments. The FBI has also reported that the account number provided to the courts by Naussany Investments for payment was actually Findley’s personal checking account number.
Findley is slated to make her first court appearance later today at the U.S. District Court in Missouri.
