After the terrorist attacks in New Orleans, Louisiana early on New Year’s Day, Billy Strings made his official statement about the matter and his concert, which took place hours before the attack. Prior to the tragedy, Strings performed a three-night stint at New Orleans’ UNO Lakefront Arena on December 29-31. It was after his show on December 31(New Year’s Eve) when Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove his car through Bourbon Street and took 14 innocent lives.

Billy Strings, who wanted to bring joy on New Year’s Eve, was heartbroken and grief-stricken when he learned about the events that transpired after his show. In light of the attack happening shortly after Billy Strings’ show, the bluegrass musician took to Instagram, X, and Facebook to release his official statement on the matter.

Strings posted the statement on numerous of his social media platforms, ensuring that his message reached everyone affected by the tragic event. Strings started by writing, “I am absolutely heartbroken and appalled about what happened in New Orleans last night.” “I can’t stop thinking about the unsuspecting victims and how unfair this is.. about the families whose loved ones won’t be coming home from their NYE celebration this year,” he added.
“We had just finished three beautiful nights of music… there was so much love in the air at the end of the show. To think that just 2 hours later this kind of tragedy would unfold just baffles me” and “My heart is in pieces for the victims and for their families,” concluded Strings.
Even though New Orleans’ Bourbon Street re-opened one day after the event on January 2, the country and Billy Strings are still in a national mourning process. In addition to paying his respects to the innocent people who lost their lives, Strings also raises a vital question that every American has seemingly been toiling with since the event happened. Hopefully, Billy Strings’ official statement brings a bit of clarity amidst such a time of confusion and heartbreak.
